Transfer

Our Understanding of Transfer

We are very pleased to collaborate with companies in evaluating the impact of human resources tools on employee behavior and perceptions, as well as on business success. Our primary focus is on analyzing HR data and, in particular, conducting field experiments (A/B tests) within companies. We recommend a thesis project with a company, especially if there are contacts with employees who hold significant leadership responsibilities. Experience has shown that this increases the likelihood of a smooth thesis process. If you are interested, please contact office-cd@wiso.uni-koeln.de directly.

Teaching-Related Collaborations
As part of teaching-related collaborations, our students address a business-related question relevant to your company. Your company benefits from the opportunity to get to know potential employees from the master’s program at a renowned university in a real-world work setting and to build a relationship with them. We generally offer two avenues for collaboration in an educational context:

Business Projects
As part of a business project in our master’s program, a team of 4–6 students works with a company to develop proposed solutions to a current real-world problem. Over the course of the three-month project, the team is supervised by the company and a research assistant from the University of Cologne, who evaluates the students’ academic performance. The goal of the project is to meaningfully link business theory and practice. As part of the project, students are expected to gain practical experience, apply their existing professional skills, and address a business-related issue for a company.

Theses in Collaboration with Companies
We regularly supervise master’s theses on topics related to organizational and corporate development or human resources management in collaboration with companies. We are particularly interested in research questions that shed light on current issues in these fields. Practical questions in human resources management can also be addressed using quantitative methods. It is crucial that the availability and applicability of data and methods be verified in advance with the student and the advisor.
